What Makes a Café Special?

Is it the coffee? The location? The cozy chairs?

Maybe. But at Meine Mama, we believe the real difference is this: we make our own ingredients.

Most cafés around Charlottenburg buy their sauces, their dressings, their dips, their compotes. That's not a criticism. That's simply how the industry works. It's faster. It's easier. It's predictable.

We choose the harder path.

Everything Starts from Scratch

Walk into our kitchen on any given morning, and you'll find:

  • Lentil soup simmering from raw lentils – not a powder, not a base

  • Shakshuka sauce cooked slowly from fresh tomatoes, onions, and our own spice blend

  • Dressings whisked by hand – yogurt, herbs, garlic, lemon

  • Berry compote for our overnight oats – just strawberries, blueberries, and a little patience

  • Hummus made from dried chickpeas we soak overnight

None of this comes from a bag. None of this comes from a wholesaler with a "just add water" label.
It comes from me. And what my mom taught me.

The Real Secret: My Mom

People sometimes ask if we have a big team of chefs or a family dynasty in the kitchen.

No. It's simpler than that.

I learned from my mom.

She taught me that good food doesn't need shortcuts. She showed me how to taste as you cook, how to adjust, how to trust your instincts. She gave me her recipes – not written down, but shown by hand.

Everything we serve at Meine Mama carries a little bit of her. That's why the café is named after her.

No third generation. No big story. Just a mom who knew how to cook – and a daughter/son who was paying attention.

Why Homemade Matters in Charlottenburg

Let's be honest. Franklinstraße 21 is surrounded by good cafés. This neighborhood has options. You could walk two minutes in any direction and find a place to eat.

So why choose us?

Because homemade tastes different.

When you eat our Linsensuppe, you're not eating something that was batch-produced in a factory. You're eating something that was stirred by hand that morning.

When you try our Falafel Wrap, the tahini sauce wasn't poured from a plastic bottle. It was made here.

When you order Overnight Oats, the berry compote was cooked on our stove – with real fruit, real sugar, real patience.

You can taste the difference. You don't need to be a food expert. You just need to take one bite.

One Promise We Never Break

We don't buy premade sauces. We don't use powdered soups. We don't take shortcuts when you're not looking.

That's not a marketing line. That's how we actually run this kitchen.

If it's on your plate, we made it. By hand. In Charlottenburg. At Franklinstraße 21.

Come Taste the Difference

You don't have to take our word for it. Come by. Order something simple – a bowl of soup, a wrap, a coffee. Pay attention to the flavors.

If you notice something different, something deeper, something that tastes like actual time and care – that's the homemade difference.

And that's the Meine Mama difference.
